Hello, Des Moines food enthusiasts! I’m taking next week off — but I’ll be back the week after with my list of the top restaurants of the year. For now, here are just a few tidbits that might serve you well in the next few days.

I popped into Tandem Brick to verify the rumor! Yes—Bauder’s frozen treats are available at the Ingersoll shop. Shh … let’s keep it our little secret.

Hat tip to reader Sandy for this great tip: Bauder’s peppermint ice cream bars—and a few other frozen treats—are tucked away in a little freezer at Tandem Brick, the gift shop/framing store at 2722 Ingersoll Ave. (515-282-1031). Heads-up: the more people know, the faster they’ll sell out (that’s one reason why this post is for paid subscribers only). Call ahead to make sure they’re in stock!

Bauder's peppermint-stick ice cream bars are topped with fudge topping and chocolate wafer-cookie crumbs. After a generous holiday meal, one of these could serve three diners, if you slice it like a loaf.
