I’m in love with the busboy!

That was literally true a few decades ago, when I worked with some pretty sweet busboys at the Younkers Meadowlark Restaurant.

But these days, it’s true in a different way. 

I recently dined on the patio at Louie’s Wine Dive (4040 University Ave.), and I saw something I haven’t seen in a while: A busboy! Seriously, who has busboys these days? Oh, you can probably name a few restaurants, but for the most part, servers are also table-clearers and table-wiper-downers, and table-setter-uppers and such.

Oh – and yes, the term busboy is way outdated, so from here on out, I’ll just say “server’s assistant.” It’s better, isn’t it?
