Is Proudfoot & Bird Worth the Price?

A few mishaps at Proudfoot & Bird prevent me from giving this beautiful restaurant my highest accolades. Still, there's plenty here to admire.

I stopped covering restaurants just before the pandemic and picked it up again last year. During this break, I’d somehow forgotten what a tricky business it is. That’s especially true when you just know that a place has great potential, but alas, the night you visit, the experience ends up falling short for somewhat random reasons. While I want to give the restaurant its due, I cannot overlook missteps—because I cannot mislead readers.

Fortunately, I’ve been doing this long enough to know when an overall culture of quality is present in a restaurant. Such is the case with Proudfoot & Bird. Honestly, I think it could very well be among our city’s best restaurants, even if, on my recent visit, a few things were off.

The bar lends energy to the overall dining room.
