The very first dining column I wrote for The Des Moines Register was a review of Skip’s, and we had such a fine time that evening, I remember that as we left, Mr. Sportcoat remarked, “Wow! Great gig!”
Ha! If only.
If only all restaurants were as consistent and caring and thoroughly dedicated to their craft and their guests as this place; if only all I had to do was report on restaurants that were this good. But, as you know, not all of them are. And there’s no joy reporting on them when they’re not.
But in a sea of so-so, Skips stands out for so many reasons.
