Wait. What? Noah's Does Salmon Better Than 801?

Wait. What? Noah's Does Salmon Better Than 801?

Stick with the steaks at 801. And try the salmon at Noah's.

Lately, I’ve been on the hunt for great fish dishes in places where you might not expect them. With many diners aiming to eat less red meat, I thought it would be helpful to highlight popular spots where you wouldn’t feel a pang of regret for skipping the steak or burger.

I’ll admit, it wasn’t exactly shocking to find a miss or two along the way. But I also found a terrific surprise: Noah’s Ark is not a place I’d generally head to for fish, but during my ongoing fish quest, I tried the broiled Alaskan salmon. Was it the best salmon ever? No, but it was unexpectedly impressive: firm, flavorful, cooked to a glistening moistness, and served with a sauce meunière (a classic butter and lemon sauce).

While that was a delightful surprise, a surprise of another sort awaited me at 801 Chophouse. True, 801 is a haven for red-meat lovers, but given their overall reputation for excellence, I expected their fish offerings to be just as top-notch. Alas, it was not the shoo-in I’d expected.

A mighty fine piece of Alaskan salmon at Noah’s Ark. Winter is a lousy time to take photos at night. This tasted better than it looks!
