We stopped going to the downtown farmer's market years ago. Too many people, dogs, and stuff, and too little space and parking. I left with more grouchiness than fresh food. I'm feeling the same way about Valley Junction. So this is great to know about - thank you! And thank you for the serving suggestions. Everything looks fresh and summery!
Oh, thank you. I have loved the DTFM but now find it little more than a gentrified Iowa State Fair for precisely the reasons you state. I go to farmers markets for fresh, in-season produce and at the DTFM find myself navigating *behind* many stalls just to get to the produce. I will certainly be at GG this weekend, tote bag and cash in-hand.
Thanks for writing this. The Global Greens market has recently entered my radar but I haven’t made it there yet. I recently started doing some video and photography for In Harmony Farm, a small scale farming project in Earlham whose farmers sell mainly to Global Greens. I am excited to go there soon to check it out. I can only hope that the dishes I prepare look half as good as yours.
Went to Global Greens this morning at 9:30 with 2 friends. Picked up beets, cabbage, red onions, yellow onions, cucumber and milk bread. In and out in 20 minutes. Enjoyed seeing all the women in African garb. Will return. So much easier than DTFM. Thanks for suggesting.
You must have truly been in and out in 20 minutes, because I was there at about 9:45 and I didn’t see you! I got tons of things! Let me know what you think of the milk bread. I eyed that, but the line was long!
Thanks for sharing! I didn't know about Global Greens.
When we went to the Valley Junction Farmer's Market, my boyfriend thought it was just for the food and music! There's not much fresh produce there too make it seem like a farmer's market, I guess.
That used to be my favorite market, lots of veggies and walking just up the street and back down to shop. But it has also turned more into an 'event' instead of somewhere to shop for veggies.

Yes. I like this section “Here’s what I did with my haul.” My eyes need help once I get home from farmers markets

You'll love this place! And I bet your food will look great, too--it's hard not to make beautiful food with such glorious ingredients.
Milk bread was our last buy. No line.

I feel the same way about the Farmer’s Market, Winnie and just love Global Greens! Thanks for the reminder.
