After hiring someone to cook in my home, I started to feel like a Downton Abbey wannabe. But dinner went off splendidly, and nobody rolled their eyes and called me “m’lady.”
She had such poise and confidence, without a trace of arrogance. I envied her. I could have never done such a thing when I was her age. I pretty much hid in a closet-sized office in New York City, writing catalog copy for scholarly journals. LOL.
Love this article. I hired some DMACC students to prepare and serve appetizers and dessert during a bridal shower in my home a few years ago and it was so much fun! Thanks for more inspiration, Wini!
I knew one of them (a then-current student) and he he reached out to a friend/recent graduate who had a catering business, as I recall. I enjoyed deciding on the menu via a pre-event tasting ❤️.
My house isn’t huge so my open-plan kitchen was kinda crowded during the event but the caterers were fine and the 20-30 guests seemed happy. The food was the greatest expense. I think I paid more than you did for labor, but I didn’t mind that cost because it was a very special family occasion and an experience I’ll remember forever.
Great story. Laughed when I read this for some reason— “I did not want to see a drizzle of balsamic vinegar on anything.” Tip seemed in order for sure
Thanks! I'm so tired of that balsamic drizzle on everything. Retire it already!!!!
I loved reading this. I love seeing young entrepreneurs (maybe because I was once one myself!).

Thank you for telling us about Alyssa. She sounds like a very “good one”!
Glad you liked the piece! My favorite part of this work is these kinds of "finds"! Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed it.
Always. Wini, always!

Oh, I'd love to know how you go about doing that. Sounds like a great way to entertain.

Thanks for the intel! It sounds like it went off splendidly!
