Have you been to Keosauqua’s Hotel Manning lately? This 1899 riverfront inn has been restored, but with its rugged charm intact. Step into its history and explore the nearby state park and villages.
Thanks, Wini. I love these little, tiny Iowa towns. Reminds me of Deloit, Iowa where I spent so much of my growing up time. I was sorry to miss the retreat - sounds like it was amazing- but hope to catch the next one.
It was really fun Connie! I'm wondering where the next one will be. This place was so perfect for our group. We all like "genuine." No polished spa hotel for us!
My pleasure! I can't take all of the planning credit - though the Hotel Manning-related organizing was me, Julie did the heavy-lifting on the agenda (I only provided input and a few updates). And the people made it great--music by you, Dave, Jason, and Chip was such a wonderful treat!
Would have enjoyed the jamsession, Wini. Chip played xBk the other night (with Juano Sullivan, he of local salsa fame, on mando but Mr Sportcoat has been MIA on the local scene for a while. Best to all!
The Manning has been one of my favorite Iowa spots for decades (I grew up in Fairfield.) So glad to hear that they are still managing to keep the Hotel going, even if no on-site food offerings.
And now I am wondering if the Bonaparte Retreat still serves up luscious steaks? Guess we'll find out on the next trip!
Loved your story and laughed out loud at your foodie/Copenhagen tasting meal comment. Thanks, Winnie!
Thanks, Virginia!

What a fantastic write-up of the hotel and your stay there -- great photos, too. I couldn't have sang its praises better. So glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for leading us there! It was a brilliant weekend, thanks to all your great planning (and of course, the terrific people there!).

I wanted to try the Bonaparte Retreat. Please report back if you do try it!
Fun! I loved how you so poetically wrapped an 'eye roll' into that Insider tip.
LOL! Thanks for noticing.
Sounds nice. I’ve got long ago memories there too.
